My name is Hugo Miguel Carreira
da Silva, I live in a small village in the centre of Portugal
between the mountains (Aires and Candeeiros) and the sea, Molianos
by name, belonging to the district of Leiria county of Alcobaça. I
am the owner and responsible for the affix Sitio dos Candeeiros
recognized by the Portuguese Kennel Club (CPC).
Since i was a child I have always
lived with animals of various species. When life stabilized and i
had my own space the conditions were met to have my own dogs. After
some time of reflection about the choice, if it would be a dog
without defined breed or a pure breed dog, and being a pure breed
dog, which breed would it be?
After we decided that it would be
a Portuguese breed dog, we started the search for the breed that
would best fit our life, and it was the Alentejo Mastiff the chosen
breed.
The choice was due to its character, strong and imposing; its
natural beauty; its affable and tolerant side with children; in
short a dog truly balanced between gentleness, beauty and bravery.
I acquired my first Alentejo Mastiff in 2010, after some research,
having visited some breeders and some shows, we decided to get a
female from the Kennel of Paio Pires, Lagoa Janis de Paio Pires,
becoming this, the base female, the matriarch of our kennel.
Having a Alentejo Mastiff and knowing well the breed becomes almost
impossible to have only one, because when in 2010 i acquired Lagoa i
could not imagine that after 10 years i would have 10 more, because
besides the passion for the breed came also the will to help to
divulge this magnificent breed, either in the beauty shows organized
by the Portuguese Kennel Club, or in the several breed shows
organized by several entities related to the breed, or in social
networks where i divulge the breed and all the work i have been
developing with them.
Sitio dos Candeeiros in Breeding
It is a project based on the
passion and love for the dog Alentejo Mastiff, where i give my
maximum, to help to divulge this breed that i consider so noble.
I do not refuse, nor have i ever refused, to present my dogs in
different events and expose them to the judgement of different
judges, knowing not only how to listen to criticism, but more
importantly, to learn with it, in order to do better every day.
I believe in the work i have been doing of which i am proud and have
never used anyone's name to promote my dogs/Affix, only my work.
So, to whom knows how to recognize the difference and value the
fruit of this work that i have been developing, i will be happy to
provide a puppy Sitio dos Candeeiros, these puppies have all a work
and dedication that deserves to be recognized - have a legacy left
by his parents and me.
Sítio do Candeeiros does not deviate from what it believes in, keeps
its word from the beginning, has well defined goals about the
breeding, respects the dog as well as its standard, takes
responsibility for its puppies, gives full support to future owners,
educating them about the defects and virtues of the breed, ensuring
that the breed is the right one for them.
